Bruce Dunn is the Nippon Sheet Glass Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at UCLA. He was a staff scientist at the General Electric Corporate Research and Development Center before joining UCLA in 1980. His research interests concern the synthesis of ceramics and inorganic materials and characterization of their electrical, optical, biological and electrochemical properties. The research areas presently being studied in his group include sol-gel synthesis of materials, biomolecule encapsulation in inorganic matrices, electrochemical materials and devices, aerogels and organic/inorganic hybrid materials. He has published over 200 papers in scientific and technical journals and has been awarded 13 patents. Among the honors he has received are a Fulbright research fellowship, invited professorships at the University of Paris and the University of Bordeaux, the AlliedSignal Faculty Award, and he has twice received awards from DOE for Outstanding Research in Materials Science. He is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American Ceramic Society and currently serves on the editorial boards of Chemistry of Materials and Solid State Ionics.
